LITTLE ODYSSEUS AND THE CYCLOPS
SCREENING EXCLUSIVELY AT THE ACROPOLE CINEMA IN NICOSIA
Three years in the making, the family film “LITTLE ODYSSEUS AND THE CYCLOPS” has been a labour of love by internationally-renowned director Michael Papas, to give the children of Cyprus a film inspired by their own mythology, taking place on their own island.
For the first tme in the Greek world comes a film for all the family inspired by Greek mythology and using the latest digital technology to create impressive visual effects. Based on the Homeric story of Odysseus and the Cyclops adapted to modern day, "LITTLE ODYSSEUS AND THE CYCLOPS" combines fantasy, comedy and adventure and will appeal to parents as much as to children, with its references to contemporary Cypriot society.
The main character is a boy of 11 named Odysseus, who lives in Nicosia. When he visits the Archeological Museum with his class he is impressed by a statue of a cyclops – a one-eyed giant from Greek mythology – and buys a small replica of it to take home. That night he dreams that he is the ancient hero Odysseus, caught in a storm at sea with his followers – who are in fact his classmates Sophocles and Chloe. They land on an island and start to explore. When they enter a dark cave they are suddenly confronted by a gigantic Cyclops! Just as the Cyclops reaches down to scoop them up in his huge hand Odysseus wakes up in fright. The next day Sophocles and Chloe come to Odysseus’ house to play. When Odysseus paints a coloured eye on the little white statue of the Cyclops it comes to life… and the children’s adventures begin.
Three talented Cypriot 11-year olds play the leading roles: Christos Michaelides as Odysseus, Dina Kapitsi as Chloe and Christos Margadjis as Sophocles. Under the experienced direction of Michael Papas the children give not only convincing but charismatic performances. Well know TV actress Maria Michael makes her first big screen appearance as Odysseus’ mother, newcomer Alexis Demosthenous plays Odysseus’ father, and young actor Andreas Nikolaides also makes his cinema debut as an imposing but lovable Cyclops who wins all our hearts.
The film is produced and directed by Michael Papas, co-produced by Susan Papas and photgraphed by Minos Papas, with music by Tao Zervas, filmed entirely in Cyprus in stunning locations and at the Acropole Cinema which was turned into a studio.
The film is in Greek. An English sub-titled version will soon be available.

Shutterbug is the story of Alex, a photographer who is frustrated with life, who is tired of meaningless fashion shoots, and who sets off to shoot his own creative work. When shooting the sunrise one morning, he looks into the sun and hurts his eyes. He starts seeing spots and blurs. When he realizes that he has caught a glimpse of another dimension, Alex sets off on a journey to discover the source of his supernatural visions. His journey takes him into the dark underbelly of New York City.
The film is based on a ‘Dante’s Inferno’ concept. The protagonist journeys through various circles of hell (being Brooklyn by night!) on an odyssey… following a muse and meeting many colorful characters on the way, who in turn aid, abet, and tempt him. The film is inspired by Greek mythology, Dante’s Inferno, and life in New York.
